Prison Ministry

  • “…whatever you did for the least my brothers, you did for me.” - Mathew 25:40

Inmates at maximum security prisons are the lepers and outcasts of our present day – the people that society wants to lock behind bars and never see again. Although some parishes have a prison ministry, very few are willing to go to the maximum-security units.

ACTS brother Robert McCormick has been volunteering at the Connally State Penitentiary in tandem with the ACTS brothers from Kolbe Prison Ministry in Fredericksburg since 2009. What began as first as bringing an ACTS retreat into the prison has slowly transformed into a vibrant Catholic community of men who have dedicated their lives to Christ and are praying, studying and working tirelessly to be better men and to inspire their fellow inmates to do the same.

  • The prison needs volunteers to come and monitor the RCIA and the Life Skills classes. The men are also hungry for good Catholic resources so that they can continue to learn and grow in their faith.

SPX Prison Ministry was created to support this endeavor. We are looking for individuals or couples who would like to join us in volunteering at the prison, and for people who want to help support in other ways: raise money, provide materials, provide a meal or dessert for one of the retreats, assemble packets for the life skills classes.
